JANUARY

Welcome Back Party

Students are given a day of fun to kick off the New Year! We welcome back students with games, events and special guest speakers to instill motivation and drive into students who participate in the Afterschool Program.

Family Date Night

Parents and students come out for a dinner and a movie.

 

FEBRUARY

Karaoke Night

Used to bring fun and excitement by singing along with songs as well as a fundraising event. 

Annual Black History Celebration

The annual Black History Celebration allows students to display a various array of talents in recognition of Black History. Students perform poetry readings, drama, song, and dance for parents, staff and peers.  

Winter Concert

Bringing talented artists/musicians for a concert for means of raising funds. 

 

MARCH

Annual Spring Break Celebration 

The students of First Chance bring in the spring season with a day of fun! Students participate in many different activities that allow them to kick off spring break with a BANG!!

Bowling

Using Bowling as a means of family fun and fundraising. 

Spring Talent/Fashion Show

This event will allow students to showcase their creativity through fashion and talents.

 

APRIL

Fan Drive for Seniors

Community service project for students to raise funds to purchase electric fans.

Bowling

Using Bowling as means of family fun and fundraising.

Spring Clean Up (Adopt-A-Block) 

First Chance students clean a block near the location of their school.

 

MAY

Skating

Using skating as means of family fun and fundraising event.

Adopt-A-Park (Union Field) 

First Chance students partner together to clean Union Park.

Friends and Family Day

Families, friends and children come together to share in a family fun day with games.  This event is also used for parents to reflect on all the accomplishments that their son/daughter had throughout the school year.

Cinco de Mayo Celebration

The annual Cinco de Mayo Celebration allows students to display a various array of talents in recognition of Hispanic Culture.

 

JUNE

Skating 

Using skating as means of family fun and fundraising event.

Community Gardening Projects 

Teach students the basics of Gardening.

Start-of-Summer Dance

Dance for students to start off their summer with a BANG!  Also a dance contest for groups to win prizes and pictures of performances.

 

JULY

Skating 

Using skating as means of family fun and fundraising event.

Field Day / First Chance Olympics 

Students participate in various physical activities.

3 on 3 Basketball Tournaments 

Using basketball to bring awareness to healthful living.

 

AUGUST

Skating 

Using skating as means of family fun and fundraising event.

Help a Senior Week

Students will assist the elderly with various projects.

Family Picnic in the Park 

Families, friends and children come together to share a day of fun.

 

SEPTEMBER

Skating 

Using skating as means of family fun and fundraising event.

Bingo & Spades Night

Parents and students are welcomed back to school with opportunities to win prizes (Electronics, Gift Cards, Cash, School Supplies).

OCTOBER

Skating

Lights on Afterschool

Lights on Afterschool program is a national celebration to recognize the work of the after school programs nationally in October.

Student dance and admission to party is canned or dry food goods. Also a dance contest for groups to win prizes and pictures of performances.

Food Drive 

All food will be used for Thanksgiving Baskets for the Thanksgiving Celebration.

 

NOVEMBER

Annual Thanksgiving Celebration

Students and Families enjoy a meal prepared by staff and parents during the Thanksgiving Celebration.

 Socks, Hat, Gloves, Coat Drive / Toys for Tots 

All items collected will be used for the Holiday Celebration.

DECEMBER

Annual Holiday Celebration

The annual Holiday Celebration allows students to display a various array of talents in recognition of the Holiday Season. Students perform poetry readings, drama, song, and dance for parents, staff and peers.

 Adopt-A-Family for Christmas 

A First Chance Family will be selected for assistance for the Holiday. 

 

OTHER EVENTS

The Main Event

Everyone is welcome to attend this open house where you can see demonstrations by our youth boxers, 3-on-3 basketball and other games; enjoy barbeque and music; and show your support for our area youth.

Annual Family Game Night

Families and children come together to share in a family fun night with games.

Amusement Parks

Participants in the First Chance Summer Program are given the opportunity to travel to different amusement parks and spend the day riding roller coasters, enjoying the water parks, watching performances, playing games and spending time with friends. 

BH Cal Ripken Baseball Tournaments

The Cal Ripken Baseball league will impact the lives of youth in so many ways. All children deserve to reap the many benefits of playing baseball such as: friendship, self-control, confidence, alertness, initiatives, conditioning, sportsmanship, teamwork, life lessons, and fun.

After School Activities

Students engage in Structural Enrichment Programs: arts and culture, health and wellness, character education and life skills, dance, drama, music, choir, chess, and tutoring.  

Soup Kitchen Volunteers

First Chance Staff members contribute to the community by donating food and volunteering services to the local Soup Kitchen.

MEAP Prep

Student learn skills of science, math, reading and writing, homework assistance, compass learning, and a web-based program. 

USA Cooking Camp
USA Cooking Camp is designed to make cooking and nutrition fun for all ages. Students worked with professional chefs, experiencing hands-on food preparation and the benefit of eating what was prepared.
